Obituary of Mel Wenstob
Mel Wenstob, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2006 at the age of 75 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Niki (Olga Nikiforuk), his four loving children Dalton (Brenda Muir), Corinne (Mark Kaminski), Darin and Lisa and his cherished grandchildren, Mariah, Mikayla, Keal and Saoirse. He also is survived by his brothers Murray (Joy) of Swan River, Manitoba and Gordon (Phillipa) of Vancouver, B.C., sister-in-law Ilene (Gordon Batty) of Calgary and many nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his parents Paul and Mabel and his sister Stella. Mel was born in Viking, Alberta on March 17, 1930 and in 1948 moved to Banff Alberta where he was involved in the construction of the first chairlift in the Canadian Rockies at Mount Norquay. Moving to Calgary in 1952, Mel joined and dedicated the next thirty-five years of his life to the Calgary Police Service most notably as Detective in the Homicide and Robbery Detail. Mel’s life passions were his family and grandchildren, his farm, along with hockey, curling, golfing, skiing, and hunting. Mel was a fixture in his neighbourhood and was known for his wit, wisdom and generosity.
Funeral Services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church (3527 Boulton Road N.W.) on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A Funeral Service will also be held in Viking, Alberta at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church on Friday, February 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Lutheran Cemetery.
