Obituary of Brian Gordon Taylor
Brian Taylor, beloved husband of Ilca passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2006 at the age of 50 years.
Brian is survived by his wife Ilca; 18 month old daughter Roxanna; dad Ed; brother Paul and his wife Linda. He was predeceased by his mother Sheila.
Thank you to all his friends as well for being part of his life. Brian was born in Northern Rhodesia; today Zambia, moved to Saskatchewan and grew up in Shaunavon. In 1987 he called Calgary home, a place that suited his entrepreneurial spirit and love for the outdoors. Always the whiz kid and inventor, Brian sought to answer the questions why and why not about most things mechanical or electronic. Bringing together his practical skills as a mechanic, an early interest in the power of computers and an innovative view of electronics, he searched out solutions to challenges he experienced and observed in business. He found his niche working for and helping to build Pason Systems for over 15 years. He invented, designed and produced leading specialized drilling instrumentation systems. And more recently he lived a passion and dream of his by establishing a successful oilfield service business, “Drift-O-Matic” which was built on his desire to bring workable solutions to the marketplace. In June 2003 Brian married Ilca and a year later they were blessed with their beautiful daughter Roxanna, who always brought a smile to her father’s face. Animals were also an important part of Brian’s life. Whether at work, outdoors on his bike or travelling, he was often accompanied by Andy his parrot. They were the best of friends. Brian loved the outdoors. He was a very good skier and could think of nothing better than going for a bike ride or hiking in the summer time. Airplanes were one of his hobbies and he loved to build and fly radio-controlled models. He was soon to have started a flying course. While battling kidney cancer and then pancreatic cancer over the last couple of years, Brian lived life to the fullest. Whether building his new business, spending time with Roxy, catching a Tyee Salmon with his Dad, or taking Ilca to one of his favourite places, the Turks and Caicos, he made the most of his time.
Brian will be in our hearts forever and we will love him always. He was a sensitive, gentle, intelligent, patient person who was passionate about everything he did. He was an extraordinary father and a wonderful husband.
“We love and miss you, Brian. We will all see you someday.”
Friends wishing to celebrate Brian’s passion for life may make a contribution in his memory to the charity of their choice.
