Obituary of Anna Mary Wilson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Mary Wilson (nee McLaren) of Dog Pound, AB, on Friday, February 10, 2006 at the age of 96 years.
Anna was born in Calgary, AB on July 20, 1909, to parents John and Amelia (Emily) McLaren. Anna and her family moved to the Dog Pound, AB district in 1922 from Ontario having previously lived in Calgary, AB. She attended Summit Hill School, Beaver Dam School, and Crescent Heights High School in Calgary. Anna met Fred who had arrived from England in 1926, and purchased a farm in the Dog Pound district in 1928. On December 4, 1929 they were married and went to England on their honeymoon. They sailed on the S.S. Montcalm. Anna was one of the first members of the Dog Pound Bluebirds, before that the Ladies Club and the Red Cross during the war years. She was also a long-time member of the Eastern Star. For sixty years, Anna and Fred farmed and eventually started a purebred Herford herd under the name of “Kimbolten Herefords”. In the late 1960’s Anna got herself a Honda Trail Bike that she enjoyed riding around the farm checking he cattle and corrals. During the winter seasons Anna enjoyed curling and taking ceramic classes. She made many lovely ceramic pieces including a Hereford bull she named “Proud Prince”. IN 1985 Anna and Fred sold the farm and retired to the Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane, AB.
Anna leaves to mourn and to remember her love and care, her brother Stewart (Vera) McLaren, of Cochrane; four nieces, Donalda McLeod, of Cochrane, Rheta McLaren, of Calgary, Marilyn (Rob) Andison, of Lacombe, AB, and Deanna McArthur, of Whitehorse, YT. She is also survived by five grand-nephews; one grand-niece, four great-grand-nieces; and two great-grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Fred C. Wilson, on November 2, 1993; her brother Donnie McLaren; and her sister Margaret McArthur.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Cochrane Funeral Home (369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB) on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family extend their thanks to Dr. Dennis Fundytus and Dr. Mark Addison for Anna’s care. Thanks are also extended to the staff of the Big Hill Lodge, Cochrane, and the Bow Crest Care Centre, Calgary. A great deal of gratitude and thanks is extended to Lori O’Donahue for the companionship and care given to Anna for the past several months.
