Obituary of Darlene Scott

Darlene passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 10, 2006. Born in Moncton, NB, she moved to Calgary with her family in 1958 and married Jim Scott of Calgary in 1969. Darlene is survived by husband Jim, daughters Victoria Murakami (Jeff) and Cynthia Scott, mother Doreen “Peggy”McConnell, brother Brian McConnell, all of Calgary; sister Susan Nanni (Carl) & family, brother Darryl McConnell (Marilyn) & family, all of Toronto; and extended family from coast to coast. Darlene’s fulfilling career as a volunteer began with Vicki and Cindy’s schools, from kindergarten to high school, and branched into a 21 year love affair with the figure skating community where she contributed in numerous capacities and as an accountant at various levels. In 2003 she was recognized with both the Skate Canada Calgary Region and the Alberta-Northwest Territories-Nunavut Section “Volunteer Award of Excellence”. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Barbara Walley, Dr. Daphne Mew, Dr. Peter Craighead, and the nurses, technicians, and staff of the Tom Baker Chemotherapy, Radiation and Nuclear Medicine Departments. Special thanks to palliative homecare nurses Jean Eddy, Jaquie Burke, and associates for making it possible for the family to honour Darlene’s wish to remain at home. A memorial service celebrating Darlene’s life will be held at 2:30PM on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at McInnis & Holloway’s Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre St. North.
