Obituary of Walter Loeb

It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of Walter Loeb, our cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather at the age of 85 years. He passed peacefully on February 5 in the presence of his loving wife and family. Walter was born in Lydiatt, Manitoba on June 13, 1920. He will be mourned by Kay, his wife of 61 years, his children Joanne McKay, Larry (Teressa) Loeb, grandchildren Jodi (Dallas) Zimmer, Josh Westrop, Dan (Trish) Loeb, Jeff (Debbie) Loeb, Lisa (Mark) Lannigan and 7 great-grandchildren, Sam, Harrison, Peter, Griffin, Louis, Morgan and Julia. He also leaves a sister, Helen (Julius) Endler, brothers Peter (Genie) Loeb, Karl (Lynne) Loeb, sisters-in-law Elsie, Lillian and Eleanor Loeb, and Beth Scott, brothers-in-law Lawrence (Onie) Scott, Ron (Amy) Scott, Jim Scott as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Walter served overseas during WWII With the Lake Superior Regiment, returning in 1946. He was then employed by Canadian Bronze and was transferred to Calgary as Plant Superintendent. He later left that position to found his own successful company, Valley Metal Fabricators Ltd. Walter loved to dance and to golf. He and Kay were avid square dancers for many years and were Presidents of Calgary and District Square Dancers Association. Walter retired in 1980 and they spent the next 18 winters in Arizona doing what they most enjoyed – square dancing and golfing. He was an excellent golfer. They travelled overseas with a golf tour to Scotland and England where they played several Links Courses, including Old St. Andrews. Walter proudly came home with the trophy! He was a member of the Hole-In-One Club. While in Arizona they made many special friends. Walter was happiest when working with his beloved flowers at their cottage in Sylvan Lake. He took great pride in his yard. His lawn looked like a bowling green. Of special pleasure to him was when his family and friends came to visit, especially the grandchildren. He was never too busy nor too tired to spend time playing with them. He loved them dearly, as they did him. Walter was a member of Parkdale United Church for many years and was also a Past-President of the Industrial Management Club of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Peter Loeb, infant grandson Timothy Ryan, and son-in-law Terry McKay, sisters Clara, Eleanor and Irmangard, brothers Fred, Ernest and Richard, his father and Mother-in-law Edmund and Jeanette Scott, brother-in-law Ray Scott and sister-in-law Jean Scott. Walter had a great sense of humor which will be truly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of humourous stories, lots of laughter and fun. Walter always saw his glass as more than ¢ full. The family wish to thank Marlene Collins and the dedicated caregiving staff in the Tecumseh/Strathcona Houses at Carewest Colonel Belcher Care Centre for the quality of care Walter received which made his last 2 ¢ years as comfortable as possible for him, and for the family. We especially wish to thank Lidia Alexandru who so lovingly cared for him as well as Francene Hussher.
