Obituary of Jean Louis Lee

With great sadness, our family announces the passing of our father, brother and grandfather, Jean Lee, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jean passed away on Friday, February 3, 2006. He was born in Hobart, Oklahoma and attended The University of Tulsa, graduating in Petroleum Geology. He was one of the first geologists to come to Canada in 1955. He became Vice President of Canadian Devonian Oil Co. and discovered the Steelman Pool in southern Saskatchewan. Jean’s love of exploration and his successes in the industry culminated with the incorporation of his company Petro-Can Oil and Gas in 1976. Jean provided many opportunities for young and talented people in the oil industry, always contributing to the profession he loved. He was a gentleman of the oil patch in Saskatchewan and Alberta, known for his Okie drawl and great sense of humour. He was also actively involved in his community; a Shriner, a Mason, and a Director for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders. He served on the AAPG and CAPG, and was actively involved in championing the oil industry, both with federal and provincial governments for many years. He loved the golf course and being with his family and friends. His family will never forget his support, love and friendship. Jean will be greatly missed by his children, Karen (Gary Aasen), Lynn (Rick O’Hara ), Kevin (Cheryl Lee); and his grandchildren, Shannon (Jasper Wever), Scott, Kirsten (Harpal Parmar), Kimberly (Noel Devlin), Jason, and Lindsey as well as his brother Lloyd (Kathy Lee); his sister-in-law Virginia; and many nieces and nephews, to whom he was a mentor and a friend. His love and caring will always be remembered.
