Obituary of James Guy Sutherland
James Guy (Jim) Sutherland, husband of Elizabeth, died after a two year battle with cancer on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the age of 56 years.
It is safe to say that the fish in the lakes of Alberta will be the only ones that are not saddened by this news; for they will no longer fall prey to Jim’s hook and line. Jim’s value of hard work brought him dignity and pride, as well as respect from his peers. Fortunately for the fish, this meant that he was usually working on a Saturday rather than fishing. Not only was he an avid fisherman, Jim was also a sports fan who attended many hockey and football games. He had a skilful hand which he used to express himself though wood working, oil painting, fly tying, and gardening. His sense of humour was loved by all. Jim’s passing came too early; he had many more fish to catch.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Elizabeth; son Trevor (Carrie); daughter Tara (Al); sister Brenda (Gord) McGruthers; sisters-in-law Jane (Ed) Nichol, Lorraine Deans, Heather Hadley; brother-in-law Rand (Nikki) Deans; nieces Lisa (Hamid) Achchan, Kerry McCluskey, Erin Nichol, and Elizabeth Mary Hadley; nephews James (Kim) McCluskey, Chris (Jocelyn) Nichol, and Colin Nichol; his little bud Trysten as well as several great nieces and nephews and numerous extended family and close friends. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre who tried to make Jim’s last weeks of life as comfortable as they could. A special thanks to Dr. Reuther for his care over the last two years.
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’s, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) today, February 3, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. with the Minister Jonathan Gibson, Presider. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com
