Obituary of Colin Stimson

Colin Stimson of Siksika Nation passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the age of 68 years. His last name was originally Heavy Shield and he took great pride in that name. Stimson was a name received at the Dunbow School. Colin was born on March 20, 1937 in Siksika Nation, AB. He was a “jack of all trades” and accomplished everything he set himself to do. Colin will be remembered for the traditional teaching and guidance he shared with many people. He lived a full life and taught many people about endurance, strength, compassion, and humility. Colin always had time to encourage people, especially the ones going through dialysis. He was a very humble man and was always willing to give a hand to those in need of help. He always had a smile on his face, was very devoted and dedicated to his family, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends and was proud to be from Siksika Nation. Colin took great pride in the things he did. He will be remembered for his optimistic outlook, kind and gentle nature, and his sense of humour. He was very open-minded, spoke his mind and believed in making changes. Colin will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Danny (Marie) Jordon, Horton, Andrew, and Jason; Daughters: Diane (Harvey Jr.) Justine Stimson; Sisters-in-law Alice Weasel Child and Justine Panther Bone (Stimson); Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved and cherished. He is also survived by his best friend James Black Face together with whom he conquered the world of wrestling; Brothers: Roy, Dickie, Chief Adrian (Leslie) Sr. Stimson, and Robert (Josephine) Wolf Leg; sisters, Ruby Doore, Audrey McMaster, Betty Stimson, and Olivia Wolf Leg; as well as the Raw Eater, Axe, Brass, Running Rabbit, Bull Bear, Turning Robe, Black Horse, Spotted Eagle, A Young Man, Crowfoot, Water Chief, Weasel Child, and Breaker families. He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members from the Blackfeet, Bloods, Peigan and by all who knew and loved him. Colin was predeceased by his wife Bella Audrey Stimson (One Runner); daughter Colleen, parents, Edward Connor and Doris Heavy Shield (Stimson), Charlie and Millie Raw Eater, and Albert Stimson (Spotted Eagle); brothers, Eddy, Bruce, Patrick, Exavia, Ralph, and Adolphus Weasel Child; sisters, Patsy and Peggy; paternal and maternal grandparents; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. Wake Services will be held at Siksika Community Centre (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, January 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Siksika Community Centre (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery, Siksika Nation, AB.
