VOLPI – Remigio 1926 – 2006 “In the arms of Jesus lay your sweet head now…take your rest, for what better comforting place is his heart, your pillow truly blessed…” With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Remigio Volpi on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the age of 79. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Anella Volpi (Ficaccio) in 1989. They created a loving and welcoming home, sharing many happy times with family and friends. Travelling back home to Italy several times and abroad, experiencing the joys of life throughout their thirty-four years of marriage. Remigio will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Carla (Sante) Giorgi,; his three grandchildren, Christian and Richard Giorgi and Chantel (Edgar) Gutierrez; two great granddaughters, AnaSofia and Carolina Gutierrez. He is survived by his five sisters and three brothers, Irene Riti , Franca Stella and Angela (Aldo) Massetti of Italy, Annetta Volponi and Maria (Angelo) Pozzi of Calgary; Antonio (Maria Angela) Volpi, Fausto “Joe”(Iris) Volpi and Allessandro (Myrtle) Volpi of Calgary, including numerous nieces and nephews. Remigio immigrated to Canada in 1951 making his way westward from Halifax, eventually settling in Calgary in 1954. He spent many years in the furniture business, beginning as a delivery driver for Capitol Furniture, and then moving into a sales position for Steinberg’s Furniture. He ventured into partnership opening his own business, Statecraft Furniture, which he saw flourish till his retirement in 1989. He was a founding member of the Calgary Italian Club, keeping the Italian heritage and culture alive for the Italian community here in the city. He particularly enjoyed his active role each year with The CIC Sportsman’s Dinner. His pioneering spirit and integrity helped shape our city and he enriched the lives of many. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
