Obituary of Philip Martin Tetrault

Philip Tetrault, beloved husband of Norma (nee Culling) for fifty-seven years of Calgary, passed away after a prolonged illness on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the age of 77 years. Philip was born in Giroux, MB on May 17, 1928 the eldest son of fourteen children. He married his beloved wife Norma on September 3, 1949. They started a wonderful and successful life with six children, Roger (Ruan), Randy (Cydney), Bonnie (Chester), Chris (Giselle), Melanie (Reg), Renee (Vern) Fourteen grandchildren; Ashley (Colleen), Nicole (Duncan), Crystal (Chris), Tyler (Pam), Tyson, Maryse (Ed), Savannah (Bradie), Tara (Andrew), Chelsea, Courtney, Julliette, Easton, Theo, Harrison. Four great-grandchildren, Aidan, Freya, Isaac, and Chanelle. In 1956 Philip opened a fifteen seat sandwich and coffee shop on 8th avenue and 6th street S.W. and called it “Phil’s Snack Bar” the specialty was corned beef. Three years later he was looking for a chance to expand, and he was approached by a couple of customers who were building a motel on the Trans-Canada highway who wanted food service nearby. Philip opened the first Phil’s Pancake House. Which has become a staple for the Calgary restaurant community ever since. At Philip’s retirement his children continued the tradition. Philip was an enthusiastic and proud promoter of Salers cattle. At E&P Salers Ranches he spent many enjoyable years making great friends at numerous shows and events. In Philip’s retirement he spent his days enjoying his farm and family. He will be greatly missed by all. Philip is survived by two brothers, seven sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Philip was predeceased by his grandson Philip (1992), his brother Marc and his sister Suzanne.
