Obituary of Andrew Frederick Gagnon

Andrew Frederick Gagnon passed away suddenly, as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Calgary, AB, on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the age of 17 years. Andrew was born on February 18, 1988 in Rocky Mountain House, AB. He was the much-loved son of Debbie Gagnon and Fred Gillies. Andrew was a student at Central Memorial High School in his graduation year as well as in his first year as an electrician in the Registered Apprenticeship Program. Andrew’s family and friends were so proud of him and knew he could be anything he wanted to be in life. His gift for knowing how things worked, for fixing and building things was extraordinary. If it were suggested, he would build it! A big part of his life was the “campground gang” who were like family and who will miss him dearly. Andrew was fortunate to have many friends that he loved and who meant so much to him, his co-workers at Allwatt Electrical who taught him (or some might say he taught) so much, and his lifelong buddy – his cat Zak. Besides his parents, Andrew is survived by his grandmother Beth Gagnon of Chilliwack, BC; and great-grandmothers Ella Ferguson of Chilliwack, BC and Rita Gagnon of Meadow Lake, SK. He is also survived by his brother Dave (June) Gillies; and sister Lisa Deveikis of Kingston, ON. He also leaves behind his aunts, Jeanette, Sandi and Jessie; uncles, Trevor and Dave; cousins, Travis, Amanda, Kayle, Justin, Nicole, Tanner, Brandon, Bobbi-Lee, David, James, Amy, and Heather; and nephews, Robert, Dylan and Jonathon. Andrew was predeceased by his grandfathers, Albert Roland Gagnon and David Stuart Gillies. A Celebration of Andrew’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, January 13, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Instead of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, and to further celebrate Andrew’s life memorial contributions may be made to the Andrew Gagnon Memorial Trust Fund. Donations may be made through any branch of Scotiabank. A recreational playground will be constructed in his memory at Anderson Valley Ranch Campground in Water Valley, AB as Andrew often talked about building the kids there a new playground. In living memory of Andrew Gagnon, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
