Obituary of Walter Harris
Walter Harris much loved husband, father and uncle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, with his family by his side.
Walter was born on October 9, 1910 in Newberry, ON. Walter and his family moved to Cessford in 1915 where they homesteaded. He moved to Crossfield in 1936. Walter served in the Royal Canadian Service Corps in 1942 until December 1946. During the war, he served in England, Italy and Northern Africa. There is a commemorative brick dedicated to Walter’s years of service at the Colonel Belcher Legacy Wall of Honour. He married Catherine Spalding in November 1945. He was in the automotive trade until his retirement in 1975. After retirement, he and Catherine had many happy years camping with their friends in the Alberta Roamers Camper Club and were active members of the Crossfield Golden Key Club. Walter is survived by his wife of sixty years Catherine of Crossfield; son Kerry of Vancouver; and daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Bob Felker of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents Kate and Burton Harris, and sisters Lena May Coffin and Alice Mary Cote.
Funeral Services will be held at Crossfield Community Hall, (900 Mountain Avenue, Crossfield) on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev.
