Obituary of Gwen Conroy
Gwen Conroy (nee Eisnor) of Airdrie, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2006 at the age of 80 years.
Gwen was born on November 30, 1925 in Woodrow, SK. She was married to Thomas Walter Conroy on November 30, 1945 in Saskatchewan and moved to Alberta in 1950. Gwen and Thomas began a construction business and built service stations throughout SK, AB, and BC. Gwen’s love of flying saw Tom and Gwen achieve their private pilots licences in 1967 as a centennial project. This led to Gwen’s career as owner/operator of the Airdrie Airport for twenty-five years. During her retirement years, Gwen volunteered at schools in Airdrie and Calgary. She was honoured to receive the Alberta 2005 Centennial Medal. Gwen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Dean Ayles; a son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Catherine Conroy all of Airdrie; four grandchildren Christopher, Crystal, Jennifer, and Justin. She is also survived by her sister Faye Sillers of Regina; sister-in-law Doris Eisnor of Regina. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1979, brother Stuart Eisnor, and brother-in-law Robert Sillers.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
