Obituary of Wilmer Denis Ellis

Surrounded with love, Bill Ellis passed away in Panorama, BC on Friday, December 30, 2005 at a young 74 years. Bill was born on July 30, 1931 on the family farm in Foxwarren, MB. He moved to Winnipeg in 1947 and later to Vancouver, BC, eventually settling in Calgary in 1952. Bill worked in construction with his uncle and cousins (F.W. Lamb & Sons Ltd.) for many years. After completing his Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta, he taught automotives for twenty-six years at Lord Beaverbrook High School. Bill, along with Norm Russell and many Lord Beaverbrook friends, built a cabin at Panorama in 1976 – which became the “gathering place” for the past thirty years. “Retirement” years saw him working at Panorama on Greywolf Golf Course in the summer, skiing and snow-grooming the slopes in the winter. Bill is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years Gwen; son Robert (Stephanie); daughter Susanne (Curtis Thompson); precious grandchildren, Madelyn and Austin Ellis and Tate, Avery and Olin Thompson; sister Glenis Bard of Washington; brother Burton of Ontario; and sisters-in-law, Alice Ellis of California and Orvie Ellis of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his mother and father Mae and Scott; brothers, Melvin and Donald; as well as brother-in-law Milton Bard. Memorial Services will be held at Living Spirit United Church (900 – 47 Avenue S.W.) on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
