Doreen Been

Obituary of Doreen Marie Been

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic death of Doreen Been on Saturday, December 24, 2005 at the age of 39 years. Doreen was born on March 11, 1966 in Saskatoon, SK. She attended Brevoort Park Elementary School, Walter Murray Collegiate and Robertson’s Secretarial School which took her into the business world as a Legal Secretary for Mcdermid Lamarsh Barristers and Solicitors and Hawrish Law Office. Her move to Calgary furthered her career aspirations into the organization of government in the position of Court Recorder and Court Clerk. She met the love of her life Sid and was married on June 29, 1991, followed by the birth of their sweet darling son Coenraad in 1997 when she immersed herself into the world of motherhood. Doreen embraced her new role as a parent with joy and passion and chose to be a stay-at-home mom, tending to family responsibilities. Doreen was a compassionate, good-natured and fun-loving human being, with strong family values and proud of her Ukrainian culture. Her home was always open to those visiting Calgary. She had a gift for lighting up a room with her hilarious jokes and mannerisms, for taking you to the best places in Calgary and for establishing a special bond with her in-laws, parents, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Rediscovering her love for the piano, finding the best deals around town, scrap-booking, designing cards, volunteering, and living life to the fullest, enjoying every moment was important. Doreen was truly a gift. She died quickly but too soon for her family and friends. She will be missed dearly. Doreen is survived by her loving husband Sid and son Coenraad of Calgary; her parents Mike and Lillian Wiwchar; brother Brian (Barb) and their children, Jay, Bridgette and Jacey and Barb’s children, Evan, Mattie and Stephanie and her children, Ysabelle and Kyle of Saskatoon, SK; brother Lance of Calgary; sister Christine (Bill) and their children, William and Spencer; brother Tom (Laura) and their children Sarah and Pierce of Saskatoon; her in-laws Coenraad Sr. and Jeltje Been; sisters-in-law, Jenny and her daughter Alexandra of Calgary, Saskia of Holland, and Greta (Glenn) and their children, Glen, Julianna and Jennifer of Vancouver Island, BC. She was predeceased by her grandparents Fred and Dorothy Wiwchar and Bill and Mary Kominetsky.
