Obituary of Marion Muriel Clemis

Marion Muriel Clemis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at the age of 85 years. Marion was born in Manyberries, AB during the time her family homesteaded at Orion, AB. She moved to Lethbridge at a very young age when her father went to work on the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was there, as a schoolgirl, that she met her partner for life, “Willie” Clemis. Marion and Bill left Lethbridge so that Bill could attend the University of Alberta. After graduation they settled in Calgary where they raised their children. Marion was an active member of the Calgary Glencoe Club. She and Bill enjoyed many evenings dining and dancing at the Calgary Petroleum Club. Together Marion and Bill traveled the world. Greece, Malta, England, France, and Singapore were just some of the places they enjoyed. Marion was an active partner to Bill in his business life but she also loved to sew, knit and entertain. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Marion and Bill spent several winters enjoying the life of snowbirds in Scottsdale, AZ before Bill’s final illness in 1984. Since that time, Marion traveled to Europe, to Hawaii and to Australia. She was the devoted and adored wife of the late William Lewis Clemis; the loving mother of Donna Jean (Douglas H. Garratt), Robert William (Lorraine Holland), Colleen Patricia (C. Pratt Hetherington), and John David (Arlene Oak); and the cherished grandmother of Linda and Colin Garratt, Heather, Carolyn and Laura Clemis, and Jennifer and Robert Hetherington. Marion was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Williams and Nora Dogterom; and her brother Harold Trenholm. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Trinity Lodge and Mayfair Care Centre for their kindnesses over the past four years. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
