Obituary of Jean Smith

Jean Ramsey Smith of Calgary, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2005 at the age of 91 years. Jean was born on November 7, 1914 in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland. She married Joseph Smith on February 3, 1940 in Winnipeg and came to Calgary in the summer of 1941 where they resided ever since. She enjoyed knitting and gardening and was a true Calgarian who supported all professional sporting events. She was an avid Stampeders Fan. Jean adored her children and grandchildren and especially loved to watch the great-grandchildren playing in the backyard. Jean is survived by her children, Doug Smith, Pat and Norman Sandau, Doreen and Doug Gardner all of Calgary; grandchildren, Carrie (Don) Murray, Craig (Cathy) Sandau, Courtney (Connie) Sandau, Kelly Gardner and Kim Gardner; twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Robert (Edna) Douglas of Winnipeg; her life long friend Betty Tatton of Toronto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Joseph, brother Jim (Beth) Douglas.
