Peter Winnipeg

Obituary of Peter Winnipeg

On Friday, December 16, 2005, Peter (Piita) of Siksika Nation, passed away peacefully in his sleep, after a battle with cancer at the age of 80 years. Peter was a unique individual. He spent many years in the Blackfoot Hospital and a few years at the Old Sun residential school. Despite the lack of a formal education, he managed to survive many years as a farmer, rancher, and many years of driving a school bus. His main goal in life was to provide for his family. He managed this goal quite well. His love and care for his horses was his main interest in his later years. Peter was an honest, hard-working man. His faith in God was strong; he was ready to move on. The Angels came to take him home on this “beautiful December day”. We would like to thank all those who helped or assisted in any way during his illness. A special thanks to the 24/7 crew – may God bless you all. The family thank the Good Lord for the many years we were blessed with Peter’s presence. He is survived by his daughters, Caroline (Randy), Sharon (Nelson), Delia, and Chandra; his sons, Larry (Marvine), Rufus (Roberta) and Sheldon; adopted sons and daughter, Chuck (Joanne), Tony and Gabriella (Duane); stepchildren from the late Georgina Right Hand; grandchildren, Jolie (Darcy), Tammy, Cassandra, Cody, Brody (AJ), Pammy, Tammy (Chuck), Logan, Michaela, Carlis, Beff, Alissa, Jessica, and Trevor; great-grandchildren, Rhianna, Darcy Jr., Dantin, Kaylum, Kobe, Makel, Camille, Xao, and Xandier; brothers and sister, Hector (Elsie), Duncan (Ruth), and Jessie (Bill); and all those who were related to Pete in some way (relatives and friends). Pete was predeceased by his longtime partner-wife (Noella – 1994); daughter (Melinda – 1997); son (Weyman – 1973); great-granddaughter (Tanita – 1995); widow-partner (Georgina – 2005); brothers (Campbell – 2001, Ross Soosay); sister (Rosie – 1975); and his father and mother (Jack – 1962, Ellen – 1976).
