Obituary of Monzer S. Shawa
Monzer S. Shawa passed away on Friday, December 16, 2005 at the age of 71 years.
Born in Gaza in 1934, Monzer left home as a young man to study in California where he met his wife Sissel. In the late sixty’s, after completing his under graduate studies and a Masters degree in geology, Monzer, along with Sissel and their infant son Sabri, moved to Calgary where his daughter Tamara was born. Over the nearly four decades since then, Monzer worked tirelessly in the oil and gas industry and for the last twenty-six years, did so through his firm, Shawa Geoconsultants Ltd. During that time, he earned a doctorate from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. In addition, he authored numerous publications, was an active member of APEGGA and contributed significantly to the prosperity of Alberta. Monzer was also an avid hunter and had a passion for jazz.
Sissel, Tamara and Sabri will host an informal reception at La Dolce Vita Restaurant (916 – 1st Avenue NE) beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 in celebration of Monzer’s life, his achievements and his love for his family which surpassed all else.
