Obituary of Glenn Hygard

Glenn Hygard, beloved husband of Bea of Calgary, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2005, after a courageous, lengthy illness, at the age of 71 years. Glenn was born on June 30, 1934 in Yorkton, SK. After graduation from high school in Hudson Bay, Glenn joined Scotiabank in Tisdale, SK then Regina, SK. He then joined B. A. Oil (Gulf Oil) where he met his wife Bea. Settling in Calgary, they had their first son Kirk in 1962, they moved to Edmonton where their second son Stephen was born in 1971. Returning to Calgary, Glenn worked for Texaco Canada and Imperial Oil for thirty years. Shortly after his retirement he began his battle with his health. In his younger years, he enjoyed travelling and many sports, such as: baseball, golf, curling and especially hockey. His enthusiasm for hockey carried on past many years as a player where he then coached for over twenty-one years. He was an avid curler and boasted playing with John Diefenbaker. Glenn will be remembered for his love, sense of humour and compassion. These traits were often seen through his devotion to his family, his friends, and his co-workers. It would not be uncommon to hear Glenn recite poetry or stories from his early childhood. His family was everything to him as he was to us – he was our advisor, confident, best-friend, hero, husband, and dad. Besides his loving wife Bea, Glenn is also survived by his two sons Kirk and Stephen. He was predeceased by his only sister Louella.
