Helen Leury

Obituary of Helen Dorothy Leury

Helen Leury of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2005 at the age of 81 years, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Helen is lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her children, Michael (Dianne), Nancy, Susan (Tony) and Heidi (Joe); grandchildren, Andrew, Lise (Jerry), Dustin, Kevin, Claire, and Graham; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Carson. She was predeceased by her husband Victor in 1986 and her only sibling Betty in 2004. Helen married Victor, a career soldier, in 1946, sharing postings and adventures with him in Ottawa, Hamilton, Borden, Oromocto, Hemer (Germany), and Calgary, where they settled after Victor’s retirement in 1970. Helen loved sweet peas, maple syrup, autumn, and chocolate milk. She enjoyed red wine, Irish Cream and old movies. Helen had impeccable taste in shoes, danced in the kitchen, and hated housework. Most of all, Helen was thrilled to be a grandmother – and she made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. A simple Graveside Service will celebrate Helen’s life early in 2006 when all of her children can share their memories in person. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
