Obituary of Di Marzo
Antonietta Santoianni Di Marzo of Calgary passed away on Monday, December 5, 2005 at the age of 95 years.
She lived a full life, split between Italy and Canada. Antonietta was born in Bonefro, Campobasso, Italy on September 8, 1910. In 1933 she married Domenico Di Marzo, with whom she had five children. Life was difficult in Italy after the war and jobs were scarce. As a result, in 1952 Domenico immigrated to Canada to seek greater opportunities. He was soon followed to Canada by his son, Nicolino. In October 1954, Antonietta and the rest of the family boarded the boat for Halifax and the long train trip across Canada to Calgary. Life was hard at first, but over the next fifty years Antonietta and the family flourished.
She leaves behind her brother, Nicola; her daughter, Carolina; her other four children and their spouses (Nicolino and Florinda, Biagio and Ann, Luigi and Charlotte, Maria and Franco); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Domenico; Carolina’s husband, Vincenzo Colabella; her brother, Domenico; and her five sisters.
