Obituary of John Albert Luijkx

It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the sudden passing of John Albert Luijkx at the age of 42 on Monday, November 28, 2005 in Montreal, QC. He will be forever remembered by his two children who were his pride and joy, Stephanie and Michael of Montreal, QC; their mother Line Matte of Montreal, QC; his parents Hedy and Gerard Luijkx; his sister Cindy (David) Johnson and their children Jessica, Matthew, Rebecca, and Stephen; his brother Douglas (Lisa) Luijkx and their children Madison and Jenna, all of Calgary; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his grandparents, most recently his Opa, John Luijkx. John was born in Calgary on May 11, 1963. He graduated from Bishop Grandin High School in 1981 and from the University of Calgary in 1985. He served his articles with Price Waterhouse in Calgary and was admitted to membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants on January 10, 1989, being proudly introduced by his father. Having a great desire to experience foreign lands, he joined Coopers & Lybrand in Sydney, Australia, and upon his return to Calgary he joined their office in Montreal in 1992 and soon thereafter to the present, he was employed in the financial area of Kruger Inc. in Montreal, QC. He worked as hard as anyone could for them and at the time of his death was on medical leave. John loved politics for all the right reasons and was a keen debater during his university days and a young, energetic campaign worker for the Progressive Conservative Party. In 2001 he again became actively involved in politics through the Canadian Alliance Party. He was very proud to win the nomination contest in May, 2005 for the Conservative Party of Canada in Saint Laurent – Cartierville and to represent the riding as their candidate in the next Federal Election. John travelled the world and most recently went on what he called his pilgrimage to the Middle East in September, 2005. His faith was unswerving and he dearly wished to teach this to his children. John’s children were the most important part of his life. He was so proud of their progress in school, Sunday school, sporting activities, and the great outdoors. John loved his participation in the Master Swim Club in St. Laurent, therein finding his close friends. God in his mercy has taken him home. He will be dearly missed by all. Gregory Coupal, V.F., Presider. Graveside Service to follow in St. Joseph’s Section at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
