Obituary of Vivian Ilene Olson

Vivian Ilene Olson (nee Craig), beloved wife of fifty-three years to Ron Olson, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Vivian was born in Regina, SK on May 8, 1931 to Archie and Irene Craig and ran the family home for many years after her mother became ill with Huntington’s Disease. She moved to Lethbridge, AB in 1948 where she met and married Ron Olson in 1952. Their children were all born in Lethbridge and the family moved to Calgary in 1964 for career opportunities. Vivian was a wonderful homemaker, active volunteer and also worked for many years at Scotiabank Braeside until her retirement. Ron and Vivian have been long-time members of Willow Park Golf & Country Club where they played many games and made lifetime friendships. Golf became a catalyst for their extensive travel with family and friends and since their retirement they have spent winters in Phoenix. Vivian also enjoyed games of all kinds including regular bridge nights and the daily crossword puzzle. Her creative side was seen in her painting, ceramics and sewing. Besides her husband, Vivian is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Jim Rainsford and Jayne and Paul Brown; her adored grandchildren, Geoff, Kerry, Kamryn, and Hallie; her daughter-in-law Jan Kuprowsky; and her siblings Marilyn Belsher, Randy Craig and Guy Craig. Vivian will also be missed by her many friends, the Olson in-laws, neighbours and relatives. Vivian was predeceased by her son Tim Olson in 1996; her sister Patricia Chow; and infant son Terry. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church (924 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Shannon Mang, presider.
