Obituary of Oscar Gunderson
Oscar E. (Bud) Gunderson passed away on Monday, November 21, 2005 at his home in the Colonel Belcher Seniors’ Residence.
Bud barbered in Calgary for 30 years, worked for the Bank of Commerce for 12 years, and then for the Commissionaires until his retirement. He was born in Maple Creek, SK on April 29, 1928 and left school at 16 years of age to join the army during World War II. Bud was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 58 years, as well as the Calgary Naval Veterans Association. Bud moved to the Colonel Belcher Seniors’ Residence about a year and a half ago and made many new friends there among both the residents and the staff. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Irene; daughter Marion Synnott (David) and son Brian Gunderson (Bev); granddaughters Kristin Claggett and Meagan Synnott and grandson Matthew Synnott; great-grandsons Evan and Brett Claggett and Aidan Synnott; brother Harald Gunderson (Shirley); brother-in-law Norman Fisher; sister-in-law Madeline Gunderson and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Bud was predeceased by his father Oscar in 1932, his mother Mary Cooil in 1990, stepfather Harold Cooil, brother George, and sisters Eleanor and Gloria. Bud’s loving heart, generous spirit, quick wit and charm will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Bud’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Graham Hunter for his extraordinary care over the past 20 years; to the staff and residents at the Colonel Belcher Seniors’ Residence for their friendship and kindness.
