Obituary of James Gordon Traub
James Gordon Traub, beloved husband of Donna Traub of Calgary, passed away at his home following a brave battle with lung cancer on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the age of 77 years.
Gordon was born on May 24, 1928 in Windsor, ON. He moved west as a young boy and grew up in Saskatchewan. He was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia for forty years. Gordon married Donna Assmus on September 10, 1952 in Swift Current, SK. In recent years Gordon was active with the Southland Leisure Centre Senior Group, taking part in biking and curling. The McDougall United Church was great part of his life for over thirty years.
Beside his loving wife Donna, Gordon is survived by his son Jim Traub of Calgary; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Rob Bell of Airdrie, and Catherine and Randy Smith of Calgary; and his grandchildren, Jack, Laura, Tom and Rachel. He is also remembered by his sister Joyce Taylor of Vancouver; two sisters-in-law, Ann Traub and Doreen Heichert; as well as nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his mother Edna and his father Percy (Puss) Traub, who played for the Chicago Blackhawks; his brother Barry Traub; and his brother-in-law Bill Heichert.
Funeral Services will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E.) on Thursday, November 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bryan D. Derksen, Presider. In lieu of flowers memorial tributes may be made directly to the McDougall United Church Building Fund 8516 Athabasca Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 1S1.
