Obituary
Obituary of Arthur James Moore
On the morning of November 17, 2005, Arthur James Moore went peacefully to be with his Lord.
Art was born on April 11, 1916, the son of Rowland and Minnie Moore and twin brother to Rollie. Art spent his childhood in Calgary and his teen years in Airdrie where his parents farmed. Having served with the RCMP, he was called back to serve as a body guard to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her first visit to Canada in 1953. He joined Burns Foods and worked for forty-four years in the canning department until he retired in 1980 as the plant superintendent in Calgary. He married Lilly Weeks in 1938 and the couple had two children, Jim and Beverley. Following her passing 1983, he married Dorothy Gay Frarey in 1984. They resided in Calgary and enjoyed twenty-one years of laughter and good times providing hospitality to their many friends while maintaining strong ties with their respective families which included five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Art was a loyal husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather and an old softie to the great grandkids. Art enjoyed travel and he and Dorothy spent many months in Hawaii over the years. He was a sportsman and could be found hunting game birds, shooting golf balls, hurling rocks down the curling rink and riding “Ginger” his trusty horse. He was innovative and took pleasure in repairing most anything with nothing. If it was broke – he’d fix it.
He was involved from his youth in his church and served his God with joy and added resonance to the orchestra with a smooth trombone! He served faithfully over the years, on the Board of Deacons and various committees. Art was quick to smile, spirited and always ready to help.
Art was predeceased by his parents; his twin brother Rollie; and will be profoundly missed by his wife Dorothy, whom he affectionately called “My Girl”; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Molly; daughter and son-in-law, Bev and Ed McPhail , sister Gwen Harty; and a host of friends, family and acquaintances.
