Obituary of Virginia Greco-Durante

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia (Genie) Greco-Durante, beloved wife of John Durante on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the age of 39 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her doting family at the Foothills Medical Centre after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. Besides her loving husband, Genie leaves to mourn, her two children, her son Tom, age eleven, and her daughter Stephanie, age nine; her devoted parents, Maria and Pasquale Greco; four loving brothers and three sisters-in-law, Joe and Nina, Tony, Frank and Susie, and John and Ines; her adoring sister and brother-in-law Teresa and Lorenzo; her caring sister-in-law Diane (Nelson); her thoughtful mother and father-in-law, Vittoria and Tom Durante. She will always be remembered as a loving aunt by numerous nieces and nephews. Genie’s life revolved around her children. She ensured that their lives were full of joy and happiness, by embarking on activities like travelling throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and California and making Christmas that extra special time. Her love for children extended to other children that she taught at various Early Childhood Development Programs throughout Calgary. Genie loved long walks in the wilderness, gardening, and reading. She was the hub of the family and was always organizing family events. Genie fought a courageous fight that lasted longer then most could have endured and yet she lived her life as if she knew everyday was her last. The memory of her warm, caring and loving personality, that touched everyone, will live on in our hearts forever and always.
