Obituary of Ken Bond
Kenneth (Ken) Leon Bond, was born in Calgary. Ken passed away peacefully on October 23, 2005 with his beloved wife, Ruth, and daughter, Beverly, at his side.
He was the grandson of pioneers in the Bearspaw district. He attended McDougal Elementary School and Central Collegiate Institute. In 1943 he joined the No. 2 Canadian Army University Course for first year Engineering. He served overseas with the 7th Medium Artillery Regiment and the Army of Occupation in Germany until 1946. Ken earned his degree in Architecture from the University of Manitoba. His thesis was an Airport Terminal for Calgary and became his first commission. His other architectural contributions included Kinsmen Camp Horizon, Bethany Care Centre, the SAIT Campus Centre, the U of C Olympic Pool and many office buildings, shopping centres, schools, churches and covered swimming pools. Sports was a passion of Ken’s – both playing and watching. His hobbies were watercolour painting and snooker with his friends. He was active in Kinsmen Club/ K-40, Probus Club of Calgary, Woodcliff United Church, the Shrine, and Progressive Conservatives. He is also survived by his granddaughter Kristina Mason, brother Dr. Richard Bond (Lois), nieces and nephews Michael O’Reilly (Carol), Susan Bain, Carolyn Bond, Stephen Bond (Catherine), Barbara Bond, Beth Zais (Brook), Doug Bond (Linda) and their many children. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Victoria (Norris) Bond, and his son, Gregory Kenneth Bond.
Memorial Services will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W.) on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert W. Mutlow, Presider.
