Obituary of John Ivor Strong

John Ivor Strong passed away on Friday, October 28, 2005 at the age of 96 years. Ivor was born on October 23, 1909 in Portage La Prairie, MB. Most of Ivor’s childhood was spent in Prince Albert, where he graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. He then attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated as an Engineer at the age of nineteen. Ivor’s career as an Engineer started in 1926 taking him many places, but ending up in Calgary, and starting his own practice of Strong, Lamb and Nelson Ltd. in 1958. In 1965 he served as Chief Commissioner for the City of Calgary until 1971. For his many years of service to Calgary there was a bridge named after him. Ivor was also a life member of APEGGA. Ivor is survived by children, Michael and Patricia Strong of Calgary, Richard Strong of Hastings Lake, AB, and Tony Strong of Long Valley, NJ; four grandchildren, David (Henny), Trish, Chris (Brenda) and Paul; and one great granddaughter Holly. Ivor was predeceased by his wife Audrey in 1994; and his grandson Stephen.
