Obituary of Stella Niedzwiecki

Stella Elizabeth Niedzwiecki (nee Kozicky) beloved wife of Mr. Paul Niedzwiecki of Balzac, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 after a lengthy illness at the age of 83 years. Stella was born in Calgary, July 1, 1922. Stella graduated from St. Mary’s High School and Calgary Normal School. She taught in Consort, Beiseker and Three Hills and was a well respected teacher for many years with the Calgary Roman Catholic School Board. Married to Paul in 1946, the couple first resided in Forest Lawn, then in N.E. Calgary and finally west of Balzac, and were parishioners of Holy Trinity in Forest Lawn and later of St. Paul’s in Airdrie. Stella was a founding member and first president of the Calgary Women’s League at Holy Trinity and went on to serve the CWL as Diocesan President, Alberta Provincial President and as a National CWL Convenor. Stella, Paul and son Robert operated a family mink ranch which was active from 1937 to 1999. Stella was a proud Ukranian Canadian, highlighted by a visit to Ukraine in 1978. Stella is fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Stella was proud local historian and author of two volumes for Century Calgary in 1975. In addition to her loving husband Paul, Stella is survived by son Robert of Balzac; son and daughter-in-law Randy and Margie of Toronto; granddaughter Thaba Jane and husband Phet Sayo and their son Ji Hong of Bangkok; granddaughter Emma Louise of Toronto; grandson Paul Jacob of Toronto; and dear friend Cecylia Niedzielska and family of Lyalta, AB. She is survived by her sisters Nettie Mooth and Helen Kozicky of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Anne Kozicky, sisters Mary Kozicky and Margaret Wasyluk and brother Mike Kozicky. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, October 31, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Town and Country Centre (275 Jensen Drive, Airdrie, AB) on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
