Obituary of Eileen Rose Borm

Rose Eileen Borm of Calgary passed away suddenly in the arms of her family on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at the age of 74 years. Eileen was born on August 29, 1931 in Lacombe, AB, the daughter of John (Jack) and Mary Josephine Lundie. She was the third of five children growing up on a farm outside of Lacombe with three brothers; Murray, Dick, and Doug; and a sister Jean. While growing up on the farm, Eileen developed a strong work ethic and inner strength. Her self assurance and dedication to her goals gave her the confidence to leave home at the age of fifteen to live and work in Lacombe, AB, all the while completing grades eleven and twelve in one year through correspondence. She graduated with high honors in 1948 earning her the Governor General’s Award for Excellence. After a move to Calgary, Eileen was accepted directly into the Chartered Accountants program at Queen’s University, completing her classes through correspondence while working full time. In 1958, she graduated at the head of her class and immediately secured a position with a top accounting firm. It was during her hectic days of studying that she took an unusual break to attend a community dance where she met her future husband, Eric. Their courtship often entailed long hours of Eric helping her study, a process that inspired him to soon begin his own pursuit of a C.A. degree. Life moved quickly, getting married in 1959, moving into a new house in 1960, assisting Eric in completing his C.A. degree by 1961 and ultimately opening their own C.A. Firm together. Their practice brought them great joy and success. They saw their clients as more than just clients, Eileen especially viewed them as friends who needed her help. She endeavored to get to know their families; their families’ needs and to guide their businesses to best improve their lives. During this growing time Eileen and Eric also grew a happy family. Born from their love were two children, Michael in 1961 and Greg in 1963; two of the most important parts of their lives. There is no way in this space one could possibly explain all the amazing ways this incredible woman touched their lives, suffice to say it was profound. In the fall of 1995, Eric was diagnosed with cancer. Eileen lovingly cared for him, cried with him, and did everything she could to enrich his remaining days. Early in the morning July 25, 1996, Eric passed away at home with Eileen by his side. On October 25, 2005, Eileen was taken to the Rockyview Hospital by her son Michael and his wife Janelle, and was soon joined by Greg and his wife Nichole who comforted and loved her. She died in all of their arms knowing the love that surrounded her. We all miss you Mom!
