Obituary of Johannes C.H. Luijkx
John Luijkx of Calgary passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the age of 92 years.
John is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerard and Hedy, John and Carla, all of Calgary and Art and Marlene of Three Hills, AB; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ellie and George Austen, Corrie and Jim Stefanich and Marian and Jack Lundgren; and a daughter-in-law Charlene Luykx, all of Calgary. Also mourning the loss of their Opa are nineteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a sister Adrie Akkermans; and extended family in Holland. John was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-four years Cornelia in 2002; his infant son Wilhelmus in 1945; his youngest son Bill in 2001; and two brothers, Janus and Willem and his sister Cor.
John was born in Etten-Leur, Holland on December 29, 1912 and married Cornelia on May 18, 1938. In April 1953 the family immigrated to Canada. John spent virtually his entire working career in the dairy industry in Holland and Canada. In Canada he was employed by the Central Alberta Dairy Pool and Alpha Dairy in Calgary from 1959 until his retirement in 1977. John has been a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1961 and assisted in various ministries in the Parish for many years. He was also awarded the Resistance Memorial Cross in Holland in 1985 for his extensive involvement in the resistance movement during WWII. Family was of the utmost importance to him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Edmundo Vargas and the Very Rev. Joseph E. Le Fort, Presiders. Graveside Service to follow in “St. Joseph’s Section” at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
