Obituary of Lorne Karl

Lorne Reinhold Karl, beloved husband of Carolyn, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Calgary passed away in Calgary on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the age of 66 years. Lorne was born on July 2, 1939 in Lethbridge, AB. He was the eldest of eight children born to Reinhold and Harriet Karl. Lorne was raised on a farm in Picture Butte, AB. He had a great affection for the outdoors and loved the land and anything green. Lorne farmed most of his life and became a journeymen welder soon after he was married and owned and operated a number of oilfield construction companies. He married the Love of his life Carolyn Smith on July 3, 1959 in Carmangay, AB and they had eight wonderful children together, seven boys, and one girl. The greatest achievement of Lorne’s life was his family. He provided for them and raised them to be industrious, honourable members of society. All eight of his children served missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Reid (Albuquerque, NM), Jayne (London, England), Bryce (Victoria, BC), Dan (Houston, TX), Grant (Los Angeles, CA), Mark (Raleigh, NC), Neil (Knoxville, TN), and Greg (Provo, UT). Lorne also was able to see his oldest grandson begin his missionary service in San Salvador, El Salvador, September 28, 2005. His life was a witness to his beliefs and he loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he was a friend to all he met and a stranger to none. Lorne will be loved and missed but also honoured and remembered by those whose lives he touched. Besides his loving wife Carolyn, Lorne is survived by his children and their spouses, Jayne and Lonnie Empey of Las Vegas, NV, Bryce and Diana Karl of Calgary, Dan and Kim Karl of Barnwell, AB, Grant and Danielle Karl of Okotoks, Mark Karl and his fiancÚe Brook Hammond, Neil and Aimee Karl and Greg and Cheryl Karl all of Las Vegas, NV; Twenty-seven grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Jack and Marnee Karl of Edmonton, AB, Darrel and Audrey Karl, and Don and Debbie Karl all of Lethbridge, AB; as well as two sisters and their husbands, Marjorie and Phillip Pascal of Vancouver, BC, and Debbie and Jim Richards of Lethbridge, AB. Lorne was predeceased by his son Reid in 1996; and two brothers, Kenny and Brian. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, October 10, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Calgary, Alberta East Stake, 7017 California Blvd. N.E.) on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with the Bishop Peter Smigel, Presider.
