Obituary of Katherine Madelaine Cox

Kay Cox of Calgary passed away on Monday, October 3, 2005 at the age of 87 years. Kay was born on October 19, 1917 in Rowat, SK. During World War II Kay moved to Vancouver where she met the love of her life, Edward Cox. They were married after the war, and she was widowed in 1956. Kay grew up on the family farm. As a young woman moving into Regina, SK, she spent most of her adult life in her home on Charles Crescent, where she raised her three children, Joan, Kenneth, and Roderick. She was a strong, determined lady who became a Journeyman Cook and the sole bread winner for her family during an era when most women remained at home. Her career as a Cook at Pioneer Village lasted many years, and her family always looked forward to her wonderful family feasts. Kay’s strong Christian faith manifested itself in her loving, giving, kind and tireless nature. After her retirement, she continued to volunteer at Faith Community Church, where she was a member for many years. She volunteered tirelessly at the Soul’s Harbour Mission doing whatever was required or necessary without a complaint well into her mid-eighties. Always someone to admire and look up to, Kay will be missed by all who knew and loved her sometimes hilarious sense of humour and no-nonsense personality. Kay is survived by her brother Adam Debert; a daughter Joan Jorstad; son-in-law Arthur Jorstad; sons, Kenneth and Roderick Cox; grandchildren, Heather Bauce and Mathew Cox; and great-grandchildren, Catherine Bauce, Amanda Bauce, and Antonio Bauce. Kay was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1956; and granddaughter Chloe in 1989. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
