Obituary of Norman Fraser Russell

We came from God and we return to God. Norman (Norm) Fraser Russell of Calgary passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the age of 75 years. In high school, Norm was active in the Western Canada Ski Club and at age seventeen was named Calgary’s most outstanding skier by the Calgary Ski Club. He was also an original member of the Ski Meisters of Calgary. The highlight of his ski activities was officiating during the 1988 Calgary Olympic Games. Right out of high school, Norm and his brother Glenn joined their father’s business, Russell Sporting Goods which originated in Calgary in 1921. Norm continued in the sporting goods business following the sale of the original store, under the name of “Norm’s Ski Hut”. He was joined in business by his sons, Brooks and Dan and his wife M.J. At one time or another, all of Norm’s family worked at Norm’s Ski Hut where the company motto was “A family serving families since 1921.” Norm leaves to celebrate his life his beloved wife, best friend and partner of fifty years, M.J.; their children and their spouses, Andi (Tim Mellon), Brooks (Anna Iskra), Dan (Bonita Hoffman Russell), and Kori (Marty Burke); and grandchildren, Quinlan, Patrick, Andrew, Emma, Dasha, Serenity, and Justen. He also leaves his brother Glenn (Freddie) Russell; brother-in-law Brooks (Bernice) Lamb; and sisters-in-law, Betty Lamb and Joan Lamb. Norm was predeceased by his infant son Robert; infant grandson Walter; son-in-law Tom; and brother Don. A Celebration of Norm’s Life will be held at Living Spirit United Church (900 – 47 Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Rita M. Cattell and Rev.
