Shirley Gascoine

Obituary of Shirley Gascoine

Shirley E. Gascoine of Calgary passed away on August 3, 2005 after a battle with cancer at the age of 75 years. Shirley was born on March 7, 1930 in Winnipeg, MB and was the last surviving member of her family; daughter of Reginald and Florence Gough, and sister to William, Grace and Mona. Born in the depression, Shirley was brought up with good old prairie morals and ethics, where family was first. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom, though she would always find work to help out the family when money was tight. She loved family activities, especially camping trips. As the wife of a Canadian Armed Forces Soldier, moving became more of a game than a challenge, and Shirley became a master of adaptation. Years later, she became involved with handicapped groups, taking disadvantaged children to bowling events- this was something she loved to do. Besides her loving family, Shirley’s biggest passion was Bingo, where she loved both the game and spending time with her friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Shirley is survived by her three children, Janice, Andy and Peter; her nephews and nieces, Bruce, David, Cathy and Paul, and all of their children; as well as her ex-husband, Gordon F. Gascoine. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Reginald and Florence Gough; her brother and sisters, William, Grace and Mona; and her common-law husband, Jim “Soup” Campbell. “Dear Mother, Our love for you will be eternal, Our sadness at your passing immense, A purpose is given to our lives, And yours was to teach us love, To value our friendships, To be respectful to all others, We will see you in Heaven, We know this to be true, For your teachings were all useful to us, Which makes your life a success.” Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, September 15, 2005 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, September 15, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
