Obituary of Andrew Hunter Younger
Andrew (Andy) Hunter Younger of Calgary passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2005 at the age of 82 years.
Andy is survived by Marnie, his wife of fifty-three years; sons, David (Marnie), Stuart (Linda) and Brian; grandsons, Brett, Thomas and Cameron; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Carlyle; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Andy was born on October 22, 1922. He had a long and productive career in the Canadian oil and gas industry and was a pioneer in the natural gas processing industry. He graduated from UBC with a BSC. and Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering and he obtained his PHD from Purdue University. In the fifties and sixties, Andy worked for Pacific Petroleum as the Process Superintendent at the Westcoast Energy McMahon Plant and then Hudson Bay Oil and Gas. In the seventies, he was a Vice-President of Dome Petroleum. Andy ended his career with Solex Development Corporation and Taylor Management. The Younger Extraction Plant in Taylor, BC was named after him. Andy taught at the University of Calgary and he received the prestigious Hanlon Award in the year 2000. He had a long tenure as the Coach of the Elbow Park Tiny Mites. He was known for taking his hat off, rubbing his head, and saying he would write a letter to the Minor Hockey Association. He also had a passion for tennis and golf.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow.
