Sister Theresa Marie Bednarik of Calgary passed away peacefully at St. John’s Care Home on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Theresa Marie was born in Nitra, Czechoslovakia in 1925, the eldest of three children. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in February, 1946 in Bienville, QC, and made her first religious profession in Moose Jaw, SK in 1948. She obtained her Teaching Certificate at the Normal School in Moose Jaw, and taught in Shaunavan, Melville, Swift Current, Calgary, and Lethbridge, and served in Ilo, Peru for nine years. Theresa Marie will be remembered for her excellence as a Primary Teacher, her deep faith, compassion, and sensitivity. Her gentle and kindly manner was unmistakable as she worked with children, the elderly and Latin American families in Peru and Medicine Hat. Theresa Marie will be lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community; her sister Sister Mary Clare Bednarik scsl; her brother John (Joan) Bednarik; nieces, Lisa, Marnie and Noelle (Sean) Hubers; and by the Salvadorian community of Medicine Hat, with whom she was closely involved before her lengthy illness. Sister Theresa Marie was predeceased by her father Martin in 1988; and her mother Clara in 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. John’s Convent (409 – 10A Street N.W.) on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Monday, September 12, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
