Obituary of Gordon A. Connell
Gordon A. Connell of the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, AB passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, September 5, 2005 at the age of 89 years.
Gordon was born in Woodstock, NB in the Connell House. He was raised and educated in Edmonton, AB, graduating from the University of Alberta as a Chemical Engineer in 1937. Gordon’s career was in Turner Valley, AB and Calgary with Royalite Oil, British American and Gulf Canada, retiring in 1981. He was the Engineer in charge of the first waterflood in Canada at Turner Valley and a member of the Petroleum Club.
Gordon was predeceased by his first wife Marguerite and his second wife Jean, his granddaughter Ianne Gatzke; and his siblings, Ed, Gene and Don. He is survived by his children and their spouses Maryelle and Bob Hansen of Summerland, BC, Don and Mugs Fisher of Ladysmith, BC, Ede and Gil Connolley of Olds, AB, Trish and Ron Peebles, and Terry and Garry Ford, also of Calgary, and Catherine Connell and Dan Gallelli of Bottrel, AB. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Vince Westacott of Edmonton, AB; as well as by Jean’s family, Ann and Orville Ellsworth, Bob and Marlene Szasz, Jean and Norm Kanngeisser, and Marilyn and Ed Kanngeisser.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
