Obituary of Charles Raymond Smith

SMITH – Charles Raymond 1915 – 2005 Charles Raymond Smith passed away peacefully at Siksika Nation, AB on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the age of 89 years. Charles was born October 10, 1915 in Wabasca, AB. At the age of fourteen years, the Federal Department of Indian Affairs transferred him to Siksika Nation to further his education at the Old Sun Residential School. He enjoyed a very productive life as a farmer and rancher. One of Charles’ major achievements was being elected to the Siksika Tribal Council for twenty-eight years. In his prime of life, he was a professional boxer and he also enjoyed watching other sports, such as hockey and football. Charles will be missed by his two sons, Ferris (Daisy), and Dwight (Debbie); four daughters, Lorraine, Marilyn (Delford), Cheryl (Adrian), and Doreen (George); granddaughter Lendell; grandson Trevor (Kennedy); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his wife Amy of sixty-five years, his son, Leonard; grandson Jody; and great-grandsons, Richard and Braxton. He lost his mother Ms. M. Auger in his very early life. Many of his relatives still live in the Wasbasca, AB area. Wake Services will be held at Charles Smith’s residence, (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, September 5, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. John The Divine Anglican Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at 11:00 a.m with Rev. Margaret Water Chief, Rev. Mervin WolfLeg and Rev. Dr. Sidney Black, officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
