Obituary of Donald Cecil Burtt

Donald (Don) Cecil Burtt, beloved husband of Marilyn Burtt of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at the age of 76 years. Don was born on July 23, 1929 in Fredericton, NB. He obtained his education at the University of New Brunswick and received his degree in Geophysics. Don moved to Alberta in 1951. His career included top level executive positions with numerous oil and gas service companies including Digitech Ltd. and Pulse 87. Don was also a Director and founder of a junior public oil and gas company, Battle Creek Developments Ltd. He was highly respected for his integrity and was considered a good friend by many in the industry. Don spent some of his leisure time in the 1980’s at his dream home on Vancouver Island and later at his second residence in Sylvan Lake. He also travelled regularly to Palm Desert in the spring and fall to extend the golf season. Don was also a member of the Cottonwood Golf and Country Club. Don’s kindness and love resulted in his leaving behind a very close-knit family which includes his loving wife, Marilyn; his daughter and son-in law Margie and Vin Fichter of Los Angeles, CA; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Marlie Burtt, and David and Christine Burtt, all of Calgary; and Marilyn’s sons, Wayne and Mary McElroy of Calgary, Bryan and Patty McElroy of Okotoks, AB, and Michael and Rona McElroy of Castlerock, CO. He will also be remembered by eleven grandchildren, Alyssa Burtt, Stephanie Burtt, Lyndie Burtt, Carmel McElroy, Jaime Burtt, Taylore McElroy, Cassidy McElroy, Jared McElroy, Jordan McElroy, Matthew Fichter, and Vanessa Fichter; his mother-in-law Audrey Morrison; as well as numerous other relatives and many friends. Don was predeceased by his first wife Marion Burtt, in 1994; and his sister June Kirk in 2000.
