Eristo Buccini

Obituary of Eristo Buccini

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Nonno, Eristo Silvio Buccini, on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the age of 96 years. Nonno was born on May 16, 1909 in Villalago, Italy where he learned carpentry and cabinet making from his father, passing those skills on to his sons. He first came to Calgary in 1956. He then immigrated here with his wife Maria in 1966 to work and to be with his sons and their families. He gladly took on the title and the role of Nonno (grandfather) not only for his family but for all who knew him. His firm grip, strong back and long life are a testament to his motto “work hard, eat well, and drink wine”. Until recently, he could be seen making his daily pilgrimage to the garage where his workbench and tools awaited, returning hours later covered in sawdust with a newly crafted wooden trinket in his hands. That image will be forever implanted in our memories along with his generosity and strong spirit. Nonno is survived by his two sons, Pasquale (Pete) and Albina and Fernando (Fred) and Lily; and five grandchildren and their spouses, Anna and Bob, Marco and Mary, Lucia, Patrizia and Tom, and Lorella and Enrico. He will also be missed by his nine great-grandchildren, Stefan, Marina, Nicolas, Isabella, Matteo, Alessandro, Andrea, Claudia, and Giulia. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Friday, September 2, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev.
