Obituary of Lynne Rintala

Lynne Emilia Bryson Rintala passed away suddenly and peacefully in Calgary, AB on Wednesday, August 17, 2005. She was 90 years young! Lynne was a first generation Canadian born of Finnish parents near Vermillion River, Northern Ontario. During the depression, she studied at secretarial school in Toronto and worked for The Toronto Star newspaper. Learning was always important to her. A course in interior design, creating her own wardrobe with matching hats gave her a creative outlet along with her well-known talents for flower gardening. After working for the Blind River District School Board in Ontario for several years – while bookkeeping on the side – she was asked to join the teaching staff for the Commercial Department. A dream realized! Many students fondly remember her innovative approach, dedication and sense of humour. Another dream realized was the beginning of her university degree at University of Toronto, eagerly participating in her summer curriculum. Lynne was a Past Worthy Matron of the Blind River Eastern Star working on various community projects for many years. Curling, dancing, bridge and a quick, lively wit endeared her to friends and members of her community. She loved reading and was never without her crossword puzzles. Her walking fitness regime left most of us trying to keep up. Lynne retired to Florida and later moved to Sudbury, where she renewed childhood acquaintances and formed new bonds. Lynne’s ashes will be returned to her childhood home near Vermillion River. Lynne is survived by her daughter Susan Willan and by her son, Tim Bryson (wife June), dear grandmother of Terri Willan, Nancy Gray (husband Glen) and Adam, Brandy, Juliana and Martti Bryson. Beloved sister of Bill Kahkonen (Sudbury, ON), Sylvia Murphy (Orlando, Florida) and Gertrude Sleep (Fullerton, California), all predeceased. Special friend of Margaret Cooper, Myra Piirainen, Mildred Burton and Ivan Novlesky and fondly remembered by nieces Edith Younger & Sonja Kahkonen both of Sudbury, ON. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. To recognize Lynne’s dedication to the profession, the bursary will be given to a deserving graduating high school student who will be furthering their post-secondary education leading to teaching diploma or degree.
