Gaylard Turnquist

Obituary of Gaylard Randal Turnquist

Gaylard (Gay) Randal Turnquist, beloved husband of Eleanor of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2005 at the age of 66 years. Gay, as everyone knew him, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1996 and in the last few years of his life, lived with its rapid advance. He started life on April 11, 1939 as a fraternal twin and one of five children growing up on the family farm in Gwynne near Wetaskiwin, Alberta. There, he developed the strong work ethic and love for physical activity that carried him through the remainder of his life; as a young athlete enjoying baseball and curling, the years spent living in the rough as a Field Geologist in the Northwest Territories, and in his career as a Petroleum Geologist in Calgary who worked his farm on weekends three seasons a year. Gay led a full life wherein he was able to serve his active scientific mind, his satisfaction from a hard day’s work, and his compassionate sense of morality. He read voraciously, golfed obsessively and laughed heartily. Gay left us too soon. Gay will be greatly missed by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Eleanor; his two children and their spouses, Llewellyn (Jennifer), Linnea (Mike); and their children Keegan, Bronwyn, Josh, and Vanessa. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jagdutt Singh, Presider.
