Obituary of Major Edwin George Coombe

Major Edwin (Ed) George Coombe, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the age of 88 years. Edwin was born on August 25, 1916 in Cataraquay, ON and served thirty-one years in the RCSC in Europe and the UN Peace Corps in Korea and the Congo. He was proud of the medals he received, especially the “Knight of the Order of Orange” from the Netherlands. After retirement, Edwin was employed in the Clerk’s Office of the City of Calgary for ten years after serving as Calgary Centennial Chairman. Edwin loved his family and enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing and curling. He especially loved to escape to the mountains in his minivan camper. Edwin was also active in the Toastmasters Club, the Second Sixties Hiking Club, and volunteering for UNICEF and Meals on Wheels. Edwin is survived by his loving wife Pauline, his son Dennis (spouse Janet); his daughter Deborah; his grandchildren, Michelle and Roland; his brother James; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families; his many Korean War Veteran friends and others. Edwin was predeceased by his father Daniel; mother Emily; brother Wilfred and sister Emily. “We will miss his love and support.” Funeral Services will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church (1802 – 33 Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
