Obituary of Helen Heaver

Helen “Joyce” Heaver (nee Harvey) of DeWinton, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2005. Joyce was born in Cochrane, AB. She was a devoted animal lover, even as a young girl growing up west of Sundre, AB, at the Red Deer Ranger Station. Later, she married Victor Heaver and they moved to DeWinton, AB. Joyce developed many loyal and wonderful friendships in and around the DeWinton and Calgary areas, and during her fifty years of raising winning thoroughbred racehorses. An expert horsewoman, she was known and respected by many at Calgary’s Stampede Park and Edmonton’s Northlands Park race tracks. From growing up in a wilderness log cabin to flying on the Concorde, Joyce led an adventuresome and fulfilling life and will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends. Joyce is survived by her brother-in-law Ted Heaver; sister-in-law Eva Templeton and family; nephew Ron (Gail) Heaver and family; niece Joyce Woolridge and family; sister-in-law Muriel Harvey; nieces, Janet (Jim) Jewitt and Jean (John) Compton; and grandniece Meghan Jewitt. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Victor Heaver; parents Tom and Alice Harvey; and brother Maurice (Buddy) Harvey.
