Obituary of Leslie Frederick Shepherd

Leslie Frederick Shepherd, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at the age of 83 years. Leslie was born on July 22, 1922 in Readlyn, SK, the eldest of four siblings. Being raised on the farm in Saskatchewan meant long days and hard work. It was that work ethic that he passed along proudly to his family. As a young man, Les excelled at competitive ball and was a much sought after player. Les was a knowledgeable horseman and loved to follow the Rodeo Circuit and Chuckwagons. You always knew when he entered a room with his signature apparel of a Stetson, belt buckle and boots. Les moved with his family to Calgary in the 1950’s where he went on to distinguish himself as a much respected Oilman. He spent many years working throughout western Canada and later held a Superintendent position overseas. His diligent work ethic had him honoured with many safety awards within this field. Les was a man of few words and enjoyed the simple things in life. In his heart, his family and friends meant the world to him. His quiet compassion always expressed that. Les will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched with his humble spirit. Besides his wife Violet Shepherd, Les is survived by his son Rick Shepherd, a daughter and son-in-law Cherrie and Paul Sims; two brothers, Archie Shepherd, and Richard Shepherd and wife Helen. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
