Obituary of Gerald Wheeler McArthur

Gerald McArthur of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at the age of 98 years. Gerald was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 19, 1907. Gerald moved from Winnipeg to Calgary as a young boy. He worked as a young man at the Alberta Furniture Store in Riverside district and subsequently founded the McArthur Furniture Store in 1938. Gerald was an honourary member of the Ranchman’s Club in Calgary and a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club. Gerald was an avid golfer, curler, and oil painter and an excellent raconteur of the history of the early days in Calgary. He will be missed. Gerald is survived by his second wife Phyllis; his son Robert and daughter-in-law Norma; step-daughter Barbara Chisholm; and step-son Richard Chisholm and his wife Leslie; and grandchildren, Carolyn and Andrew. Gerald was predeceased by his first wife Marjorie in 1990. A special thanks to the caregivers.
