Obituary of Morris Kowall

Morris (Moe) Kowall of Calgary passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the age of 80 years from a heart attack. Moe leaves behind his wife Minnie Kowall; three children and their spouses, Neil and Miriam Kowall of Boston, MA, Brian and Janis of Calgary and Lisa and Markham Silver of Calgary; and nine grandchildren, Jonah, Mischa, Jenny, Charlotte, Ashley, Daniel, William, Josh, and Rebecca. He is also survived by his sister Edith Cramer of Winnipeg, MB and brother David Kowall of Boca Raton, FL. Moe was predeceased by his son Harvey Kowall; father and mother Harry and Bessie Kowall; and brother Russell Kowall. His family and friends, who admired him for his honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness, and generosity, will remember him fondly. Moe impacted the lives of many individuals through his entrepreneurship and his development expertise. He moved to Calgary from Winnipeg in the early 1950’s and worked in the Hardware department of Eaton’s, Sears and Atlas Hardware, gaining valuable retail and construction experience and was later responsible for such local projects as Westbrook Mall, Roxboro House, Penthouse Towers, the Texaco Building, Mission Square, Marlborough Mall, Trans Canada Mall, Brentwood Mall, the CN Tower in Edmonton, AB, and many others. Moe was also instrumental in the redevelopment and expansion of the Beth Tzedece Synagogue. Moe made significant contributions to many causes and was an active member of the Jewish community. Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W.) on Friday, July 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Erlton Cemetery (Erlton Street and 30th Avenue S.W.)
